The sanitary sewer(wastewater) system takes wastewater such as water waste from sinks toilets, washers, ets and carries it from the indoor plumbing into an underground sewer pipe. Therefore it necessary that the waste water enters the sanitary sewer system and drains to a treat facilty that Roosevelt City owns and operates. Brian Chipman, Director in this department checks and maintains the sewer lines and manholes owned by Roosevelt City periodically.
When you wash your hands, the wastewater that goes down the drain flows through the interior plumbing, out of the house, and into a pipe called a sewer lateral. Like the interior plumbing , the sewer lateral is owned by the private property owner that it serves. The sewer lateral connects to the City operated sanitary sewer main usually in the street.

Problems
Grease, paper towel and baby wipes going down the sewer system creates problems to the Roosevelt City's sewer system. When this is done often times a sewer system may become backed up and is unable to drain properly. Therefore it is important not to have grease, paper towels or baby wipes go into the sewer system at any given time.
Tree roots also creates problems with the Roosevelt City's sewer lines. Notice the roots from a tree that the city crew dug out of a sewer line.

Report Backup
To report a backup, contact the Public Works Department at 435-722-9993, or Roosevelt City Administrative Offices, 435-722-5001. Or after working hours or on weekends, call Central Dispatch, 435-722-4558. When the Public Works Department is notified, the employee of Roosevelt city will inspect the city main. In many instances, the problem is in the private lateral that runs from the house/building to the city main. However, there are some instances in which the City's main has an obstructive problem in the main line causing the sewer to back up. | |
