[ARCHIVED] Aquatic Center set to reopen Monday, August 3

The Roosevelt Aquatic Center will reopen to the public on Monday, Aug. 3, following a temporary closure due to COVID-19.

On the evening of Tuesday, July 21, administrators were made aware of a positive case of COVID-19 among the aquatic center staff. The facility was immediately closed to the public and TriCounty Health Department was called in to investigate.

Investigators determined that the general public was not considered to be at risk; however, multiple staff members were found to have been exposed and placed under quarantine until their health status was known. The facility itself was not considered a health risk but remained closed due to lack of staff.

Fortunately, no further positive cases of COVID-19 were identified, and staff members have now been cleared to return to work. The facility will reopen on Monday following its regular summer schedule with only minimal changes.

All memberships will be extended at no charge for an additional two-week period due to the unexpected closure. The final session of swimming lessons has been canceled. All those registered for courses have been refunded. Party room and facility reservations that were canceled due to the closure have also been refunded.

Additional safety precautions have also been implemented. During the closure, the facility was deep cleaned and disinfected. Upon reopening, staff will be screened before beginning a shift, follow stringent cleaning procedures, practice social distancing, and wear masks wherever social distancing is not possible, including in staff-only areas.

Members of the public are also encouraged to practice safe behaviors such as proper hand hygiene, social distancing, wearing a mask when in public, and staying home when sick.
